Ingredients

For the baked apples
  • 4 medium medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji) Choose your favorite apple variety.
  • 1 cup brown sugar (or maple syrup for a lighter option) Adjust according to your sweetness preference.
  • 1 tsp cinnamon Provides warmth and flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg (optional) Can be omitted or adjusted to taste.
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans) Add for crunch and flavor.
  • 2 tbsp butter (or coconut oil for a dairy-free version) Use coconut oil for a vegan option.
  • 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional) Add for extra sweetness and texture.

Method

Preparation
  1. Core each apple to create a well for the filling. You can peel the apples if you prefer, but keeping the skin on adds texture and nutrients.
  2. In a bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, chopped nuts, and dried fruit (if using) until combined.
  3. Spoon the mixture evenly into the hollows of each apple, packing it gently.
  4. Place a small pat of butter or coconut oil on top of each filled apple.
Cooking
  1. Arrange the apples in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overcrowded.
  2. Cook at 320°F (160°C) for about 15-18 minutes, or until they're tender but not mushy.
  3. Check for doneness by inserting a knife into the apple's side; it should glide through with ease.
  4. Let them cool slightly before serving, and enjoy them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired!
