Ingredients

Pretzel Dough
  • 1 cup warm water (around 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Boiling Solution
  • 1/4 cup baking soda (for boiling)
Filling
  • 4 pieces hot dogs (or sausages of your choice)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • Optional: melted butter (for brush-on finish)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Air Frying
  1. After the dough has risen, preheat your air fryer to 350°F. Divide the dough into four equal pieces and roll each piece into a rope about 24 inches long. Wrap each rope around a hot dog, pinching the ends to seal.
  2. In a large pot, boil 4 cups of water and add baking soda. Carefully dip each wrapped hot dog in the boiling water for 30 seconds, then place them in the air fryer basket.
  3. Cook in the air fryer for 8-10 minutes or until they are golden brown. If desired, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt halfway through cooking.
  4. Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces!

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding garlic powder or onion powder to the dough. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheat in the air fryer for best results.
