  • 8 oz Cream cheese, softened Provides rich and creamy filling; opt for low-fat if desired.
  • ½ cup Granulated sugar Sweetens the filling; adjust based on taste.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Adds depth to the flavor; consider almond extract for a twist.
  • 1 large Egg, beaten Used for glazing the pastry for a golden finish; can skip if vegan.
  • to taste Powdered sugar For sprinkling; optional but recommended for presentation.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into small squares, about 4-5 inches each.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  4. Place a generous tablespoon of the cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square. Fold the corners to the center, pinching them together to seal.
  5. Brush the tops lightly with beaten egg.
Baking
  1. Place the filled pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
  2. Allow the pastries to cool slightly, then sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
