Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
- Add the egg, extra egg yolk, and vanilla extract to the sugar mixture and whisk until combined.
- Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, mixing until just incorporated.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, saving a small handful for the top.
Baking
- Transfer the dough to the prepared baking pan and press into an even layer.
- If desired, sprinkle with flaky sea salt and press additional chocolate chips on top.
- Bake for 30 to 34 minutes, or until lightly browned and a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
Cooling and Serving
- Allow to cool in the pan for at least an hour before lifting out and cutting into squares.
