Ingredients
  

For the tea
  • 2 medium Fresh citrus peels (orange, lemon, or lime) Use the outer colored peel
  • 3 cups Water Use filtered water for the cleanest taste
  • Optional: honey or low-calorie sweetener Add sparingly to taste
  • Optional: ginger slices Fresh ginger adds heat and flavor
  • Optional: green tea bag Provides gentle caffeine lift and additional antioxidants

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Rinse 2 medium citrus fruits and remove the outer colored peel with a vegetable peeler.
  2. Place the fresh peels in a small saucepan or dry them for later use by spreading on a baking sheet.
  3. Add 3 cups of water to the saucepan and bring to a boil.
Cooking
  1. Reduce heat and simmer the peels for 10 to 15 minutes for a light infusion or up to 30 minutes for a deeper decoction.
  2. In the last 3 minutes of simmering, add optional ginger slices or green tea bag.
  3. Strain the liquid into a cup and serve hot or chill over ice.
Serving
  1. If desired, add honey while the tea is warm so it dissolves.

Notes

Use a vegetable peeler to avoid too much bitter white pith. Store brewed tea in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freeze cooled tea in an ice cube tray for iced drinks.
