Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 18 oz Chocolate sandwich cookies (Crushed) Provides the 'dirt' element and a delightful crunch.
  • 8 oz Cream cheese, softened Adds a rich, creamy flavor and helps bind the ingredients together.
  • ½ cup Butter, softened Enhances the texture, giving the cake a velvety richness.
  • 1 ½ cups Powdered sugar Sweetens the mixture, balancing the cream cheese's tanginess.
  • 16 oz Whipped topping (like Cool Whip) Lightens the overall texture and adds a refreshing finish.
  • 2 boxes Chocolate pudding mix (3.9 oz each) Forms the chocolate base, providing a luscious and rich flavor.
  • 4 cups Cold milk Needed to prepare the chocolate pudding and helps achieve the desired consistency.
  • As needed Gummy worms Fun decorative element that makes the dessert playful and appealing for kids.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, softened butter, and powdered sugar using a hand mixer until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  2. In another bowl, prepare the chocolate pudding according to the package directions, adding cold milk and mixing until well combined and slightly thickened.
  3. Gently fold the prepared chocolate pudding into the cream cheese mixture until just combined to keep it light and fluffy.
  4. Carefully fold the whipped topping into the pudding and cream cheese mixture until fully incorporated but still maintaining the light texture.
Assembly
  1. In a serving dish, layer half of the crushed chocolate sandwich cookies on the bottom.
  2. Spread half of the cream mixture over the crushed cookies.
  3. Repeat the layering process with the remaining cookies and cream mixture, finishing with a final layer of crushed cookies on top.
  4. Decorate the top of the dessert with gummy worms as desired.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or overnight, before serving.

Notes

Make sure to use softened cream cheese and butter for easy mixing. Chilling the dessert allows the flavors to meld beautifully. Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This dessert can be frozen for up to a month; allow it to thaw in the refrigerator before serving. Consider adding crushed peanut butter cookies for a different flavor profile.
