Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, sift together the cake flour and cocoa powder.
- In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, vegetable oil, and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 to 5 minutes).
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in the buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
- Beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy.
- Frost the top of one layer, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
