Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 medium head green cabbage Cleaned and cut into large triangular pieces.
  • 1 lb smoked turkey sausage Sliced into rounds.
  • 1 lb ground beef Browns to add savory richness.
  • 1 medium onion Chopped for sweetness and aromatic depth.
  • 1 green bell pepper chopped Brings mild, fresh flavor.
  • 1 red bell pepper chopped Adds sweetness and color.
Seasonings
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning Or to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Enhances savory flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Boosts onion flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adds subtle heat.
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika Contributes mild smokiness.

Method

Browning the Meat
  1. Heat a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and brown it, breaking it up with a spoon until no pink remains. Drain excess fat and return the pot to the stove.
  2. Tip: Browning the beef well builds flavor, so let it get some color before breaking it up too much.
Cooking the Vegetables
  1. Add the sliced smoked turkey sausage, chopped onion, and chopped green and red bell peppers to the pot. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and the sausage is warmed through, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  2. Tip: Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and to let the sausage release its smoky oils.
Combining Ingredients
  1. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and paprika until the meat and vegetables are evenly coated.
  2. Add the cabbage pieces to the pot and mix well.
Simmering
  1. Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and has absorbed the flavors.
Serving
  1. Serve hot straight from the pot. Adjust seasoning to taste if desired and enjoy.
