Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease and flour a cake pan of your choice.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the Guinness beer and melted butter until well combined.
  3. Stir in the granulated sugar, eggs, and sour cream until the mixture is smooth and cohesive.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until fully blended.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  2. Bake for 30-35 minutes. To ensure doneness, insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
  3. Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. For the Irish buttercream, beat the softened butter in a bowl until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until the frosting is fluffy.
  3. Pour in the Irish cream and heavy cream, then mix until the buttercream is smooth and spreadable.
  4. Once the cake is completely cooled, generously frost the top and sides with the Irish buttercream.
