Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease and flour a cake pan of your choice.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the Guinness beer and melted butter until well combined.
- Stir in the granulated sugar, eggs, and sour cream until the mixture is smooth and cohesive.
- In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until fully blended.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes. To ensure doneness, insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
- Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
- For the Irish buttercream, beat the softened butter in a bowl until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until the frosting is fluffy.
- Pour in the Irish cream and heavy cream, then mix until the buttercream is smooth and spreadable.
- Once the cake is completely cooled, generously frost the top and sides with the Irish buttercream.
- Slice and serve this delightful cake.
