Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef, 80/20 or your preferred lean-to-fat ratio, cooked and drained for best texture and flavor
  • 1 can (15 oz) green beans, drained for tender vegetable bite and added color
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup, condensed to create a creamy, savory sauce
  • 1/2 cup milk to thin the soup into a smooth filling
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese for a melty layer that binds the filling
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen Tater Tots for a crispy, golden topping
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder to boost savory depth
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder for mild onion flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Make sure the rack is in the center position.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and crumbly.
  3. Drain excess fat from the beef and return it to the skillet or a large mixing bowl.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef, drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir until evenly combined.
Assembly
  1. Grease a casserole dish lightly and pour the beef and green bean mixture into it, spreading it into an even layer.
  2. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef mixture.
  3. Arrange frozen Tater Tots evenly over the cheese.
Baking
  1. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for about 30 to 35 minutes, until the Tater Tots are golden brown and crispy.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Browning the beef well adds flavor. Drain well to prevent a greasy casserole. Arrange Tater Tots tightly for a uniform crust.
