Ingredients

  • ½ cup (115 g) softened unsalted butter
  • ½ cup (100 g) packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup (50 g) white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (170 g) chocolate chips

Let’s make it

  1. Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment.
  2. Beat butter and sugars until creamy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  3. Mix flour, baking soda, and salt separately. Stir into butter mixture just until combined, then fold in chips.
  4. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto trays, 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden and centers are just set.
  5. Cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then move to a rack. Makes about 18 cookies.

A little kitchen tip

If dough feels very soft, chill for 20 minutes before baking; add chilling to the total time.

Times are estimates. Check ingredient labels for allergens and use the doneness cues above.
